Okay I am Hooked…

Okay I am Hooked…

I never thought I would ‘get it’ but I am hooked on Second Life. I have spend hours wandering this Metaverse, checking out museums, libraries, regions and meeting some pretty terrific people. I have attended classes, meetings and socials. Each time I come away impressed. Now I want to learn how to hold these classes, give presentations and show video.

I am so hooked, I decided to rent a house on Eduisland II, it is right on the corner of the convention center. My husband thought I was nuts, but now after watching over my shoulder all evening I believe he may be joining me. I need to learn how to decorate effectively and make the place feel warm and inviting. I think one of the appeals of Second Life is the attention to aesthetics and detail. I am going away for a few days and will not be in SL too often, and I am going to miss it.

Below is a photo of my son sleeping in a 19th century school house we visited a few years back, seems appropriate to hang on the wall of my virtual home, in a virtual learning environment. The other is of the ISTE social I attended last night, I am in the green shirt, my back is to you. Hope to see you soon, do not hesitate to drop by some time.

  1. Grins — I thought that was you last night.

I am hooked too. In fact, I have started a photo journal at

Last night I stood INSIDE the ocean and had a whale swim right past me. That would never happen in my RL.

Let’s meet up sometime. I am thinking about real estate too. Just not sure of the cost.

  2. Well, reading all the different blog posts recently has piqued my interest. Years ago, my daughter, Sarah, was involved with Habbo Hotel and I can remember the days giving her money to purchase items for her “space.” She had a lot of fun on it. Maybe I will be able to take a vacation in Second Life 🙂

Maybe after I put together my Blog Workshop for the teachers, I will look into it. A goal for the summer???

  3. Beth,

Welcome to EduIsland II! Where is your place? Mine is here:

I am so glad you enjoyed your visit to ISTE HQ and that I was able to be of assistance. I am just one of a small but enthusiastic team of volunteers (‘docents’ sounds too funny) – and we just love helping people catch the “SL bug.”

I have passed on your comments to the other ISTE Docents and want to thank you for taking the time to let us know we’re making a difference!

  4. Hi Beth:

Just wanted to say Congrats again on the house in Second Life and welcome! Isn’t it so nice to be on Eduisland II as a community of learners and educators?

    See you in Second Life!
