Connected Collaboration
I am reviewing my notes for a presentation this evening on Personal Learning Networks, and I took a break to check in with mine. I know many are writing about this now, I have included some links below. Recently there have been wonderful examples of the network in action. It is a relatively new tool to many of us and we are getting much better at participating and working within this framework. What really hit home for me is the sense of community and the ability to collaborate with people I have not met face-to-face. In the last few days I have been asked twice to work on a proposal for NECC, by people I only know through this network. I participate in the DEN is SL leadership council* to plan events and grow a community with people from across the country. I realize that this ability requires a certain skill set in technology and interpersonal communication. I think these fall under the global heading “21st century literacy skills” but I feel these can not be taught so much as experienced. As with anything time, practice and patience are needed to develop success in working in such a creative, connected, collaborative environment. It gives a whole new meaning to a day at the office. The nature of who we work with and how we work is undergoing a major shift. My mind is just starting to grasp this new reality.

A Wonderful Thing about Twitter – Technospud
Connected exploring through WiZiQ – Ryan Bretag
*I just need to add this aside. I think the DEN in SL leadership council is the most creative and energetic group I have ever had the pleasure to worked with, it is hard to keep up with their stamina and enthusiasm.
