Parent Questions
Out in my neck of the woods students have different options for attending high school. So my daughter and I have been visiting high schools and attending open houses. As I sit in the audience as a parent I tend to focus on different things then I would as a educator. But the questions put forward by parents at a recent open house really caught my ear as an educator, particularly as a tech educator.
- What type of technology do you have available to students?
- Will my son have the technology and communication skills necessary to do well at college?
- How do you teach students about Internet safety and good research skills?
- Can the students take courses on-line?
- Can my child bring in their own laptop to school to do work?
I have never heard these questions voiced by parents before. Imagine if administrators kept hearing these questions and had to have answers. Would that change how technology is viewed and implemented in their schools?
I know those answers had an effect on how I viewed the school.
