The Wired Generation?
My son, age 9, is a gamer. He spends time each day on the computer playing games (Club Penguin, WebKidz and World of War Craft), quite a range. He also is a Nano user and downloads music from iTunes. He lives in a wireless house, all of our computers can move around the house.
On day he had to come to school with me. He set up the laptop while I did a few things. I came back and he was concerned the internet was not working, why was that? I said we need to “plug it in.” “You mean you need wires?”. When we returned home I had him climb under the desk with me and show him the cable coming into the modem, from the modem to the Airport. I explained this sends out a signal you connect to in the house and part of the yard.
Further discussions revealed that he thought it was just part of the computer, he has always been able to connect. I thought about this, everyplace he goes with the laptop has wireless access (Willy’s Gym, Charles Moore Arena, Hearth and Kettle restaurants, Grandpa’s, and his close friends). I guess this is a glimpse into the future. Maybe he is a member of the “wireless generation”.

Beth,
Isn’t it the truth!
What was frustrating for me today was that I gave a training at a school where the computer lab is running 8.6 on their Macs and the classrooms do not have Internet access.
Our kids are becoming members of a wireless generation and we wonder why we are losing them in school when there is little connection to their real world!
