How do you get there?
I work with some terrific teachers and am currently working closely with about 20 teachers doing various long term PD classes. They are very much like most of the teachers I work with every day. They see all the new tools, they see the possibilities of the tools, they see how it could impact their students learning. They get it. But they are overwhelmed by it all, the many options, the need to teach the state mandated curriculum, 21st century skills, and how kids learn and work today. Will Richardson in his recent post seems discouraged that he does not see new pedagogies. I see teachers struggling to work with the tools in an old system. What they and the system need are time. To develop new pedagogies requires time. Time for teachers, students and administration become use to the tools, so see how they work, to see how students respond. Then teachers need time to be creative, collaborate and innovate. Then you will see real change. Teachers on the whole are a talented group of people and ultimately act in the best interest of their students.
