Everybody Blog Now

Everybody Blog Now

This Friday I am going to begin a series of blogging workshops entitled Blogging for Professional Development and Personal Growth. About 30 administrators and teachers have agreed to an 8 week blogging experience. I once heard it takes a month to develop a habit, so I figure 2 months for good measure. During the workshops participants will set up a bloglines account, create a blog on edublogs, and discuss the experience thru the blogs and in face-to-face meetings. They will read blogs and write about what they find on the blogosphere.

I am really looking forward to these workshops. Blogging has profoundly changed the way I learn and has been central to my growth as an educator. I hope that others will discover the same thing. At the very least I hope they will have a deeper understanding of the process and benefit of blogging, so when a teacher asks about blogging in the classroom they can give a more thought full response.

  1. Wow — what a great idea. And to have them link to each other in bloglines — WOW, Fantastic.

Can’t wait to hear the outcome!! WOW…..great job.

  2. This is fabulous. I’m doing a series with my staff…Web 2.0 Tools…this year. We’ve started with reading blogs, Bloglines accounts, RSS feeds. Next up, trying to get them to actually create a blog! I’m curious, what has your success rate been? And what tricks are you using to get them started with their own blogging?

  3. Em,

We are just getting started so I’ll have to get back to you on the success rate. How did we get them to come? I am not sure. A pretty eclectic group signed up. Some attended our FYI Sessions (30 min, informational sessions on a variety of topics, moodle blogs, wikis, social bookmarking). Some came from a Grad class in technology we just completed, others are people I frequently talk to about what I have gotten out of blogging. There are a few I have never had a professional contact with. I think I’ll ask them to comment here and speak for themselves.
