7 Things Meme
I have been tagged by Fred AKA Riptide Furse. At the end of 2006 and in the summer of 2007 I was tagged by in a similar meme. It may have been the same one morphed like a game of telephone as it cycled around the eduverse. So in reading what I wrote then, I am going to bend the rules a bit and share what I wrote. They still seem relevant, and well I did not have as many subscribes back in the day so to many of you it will be new.
Back in December 2006 I shared the 5 things .
1. Faith: I must share that my faith is very important to me and helps guide me in my daily life. It gives me strength and hope and I believe a sense of perspective. I also find it helps me see the best in others and focus on their potential as I remind myself that we are all God’s children and that “God doesn’t make no junk” (I think that used to be on a poster in my old Sunday school).
2. Family- I grew up in a strong family where everyone attended every soccer game or color guard performance; I was a rifle in the HS band, my sisters were sabers. That looks odd but that is how we said it. I met my husband in Ghana where we were both Peace Corps volunteers. I fell in love and knew I wanted to marry him in about 3 days. We were married two years later back in the states. We needed to make sure it wasn’t just jungle love, we are now in our 20th year of marriage. We have a 13 year old daughter who was born in Amman, Jordan but thinks of herself as a misplaced Asian. She wishes she lived in Japan, she has been teaching herself Japanese for the last few years, she ice skates, and draws Manga. Our son was born 10 years ago in Seoul, Korea. He is all boy, loves sports (swimming and running), playing World of War Craft and annoying his parents. My husband, Bill, teaches IB chemistry and other science classes at Sturgis Charter School. He also is a shell fisherman on the side raising and collecting clams and oysters. He too loves World of War Craft. ***update 2009 – daughter now attends the same school where her dad teaches and son is now a middle schooler and Bill and I are in our 22 year of marriage.
3. Food: I love to eat. I love food from all cultures. My daughter and I will look up recipes, then cook up a meal none of us have eaten before. Sometimes living out here in Cape Cod makes it hard to find certain ingredients. But when we go to Boston or NJ (to visit family) we pick up some good unique foods.
4. Traveling: Bill and I spent 10 years living and teaching overseas (Ghana, Jordan, Korea, Saudi Arabia). We spent a lot of time exploring different cultures and environments. I am just starting to scan in pictures and upload them to flickr. We hope we have gained a bit of global perspective and hope to pass that on to our kids. We have not traveled as much as we use to (my daughter ice skates, remember) but we get out and about once in a while. When we travel I collect examples of the traditional dress of the place I’ve been. *** update 2009 – I did get some pitures up into flickr but never finished – really need t work on follow through.
5. Dream: I have this dream to someday write a book. My dad tells me to, almost every time I get on my soapbox. I have all these ideas in my head I would love to get out and share with others. For example; how to teach content through literacy skills, student-learning teams, and contract learning, a mentoring approach? I also wish to provide strategies for teachers to support diverse and special learners. But it is not going to happen I can barely get time to post to the blog let alone write a book. My other dream is to leave it all behind and just be mom to two terrific kids, but that is not going to happen either if my daughter keeps skating. *** update still have the same dreams but actually began an outline for the book
In August 2007 I shared 8 random things about me.
8 random facts;
1. My favorite high school activity was color guard – I was a rifle.
2. I would love to live on a small farm. I love to work in the garden and grow fruits and vegetables. I like to make my own jams.
3. Wish I was creative and had some artistic talent, I envy my daughter who is quite the artist.
4. I am the family history keeper. I have traced some lines back to the 1500’s others only to the 1870’s then I hit my brick wall. I have been recording family members stories on my Mac and making CD’s for everyone. My extended family members think I am nuts, I know someone will appreciate it later.
5. I love to walk by the ocean, helps put it ALL in perspective for me.
6. I decided to marry my husband after only 3 days, we just celebrated 20 years of marriage. *** a repeat I know but I would do it all again – and it still amazes me how wonderful it has been.
7. I have lived in a variety of places in the world, my absolute favorite country was Jordan, friendliest people and I could just open the Bible and pick a place to visit.
8. I once considered going into the ministry, but somehow ended up in education and love it. I have been told it takes the same type of person.
Now I am supposed to tag others – only everyone I network with seems to have been tagged. Maybe this is a sign I need to increase the circle. There have been many plurk conversations of people searching for the untagged. They seem scarse. I hate to break the chain but if you have not been tagged consider yourself if, and let me know. In the mean time I cruise twitter and plurk in search of the untagged.
