Fitness Update
This is not really education or technology related but a lot of members of the eduverse have been supporting each other in becoming more fit. For example many of us are participating in the 50 million pounds challenge on the plurkdown or twitterdown teams. Many of us are determined to re-conquer our bodies as we develop our minds. I thought I would share my fitness update.
In the fall of 2007 my life hit a road bump. I injured my arm which meant the end of the exercise regime I had followed for almost 2 years. My son had health issues which lead to lots of stress eating, how I love my comfort food. I gained weight and I kept on gaining. By the spring of 2008 my son’s health concerns were all sorted out and I was once again allowed to exercise vigorously and get back to weight training. This was a hard routine re-establish. I had to make time once again to get to the gym, work out on the wii, take a walk, etc. I had grown comfortably lazy. I decided to focus on moving and exercising more and not focus on dieting, one thing at a time. Though, during this time I did lose about 5 lbs and a couple of sizes as I toned up. By the summer I had gotten back to my routine and really enjoyed my workouts.
In August 2008 I seriously began to concentrate on loosing weight and developing good eating habits. In actuality I have always been a healthy eater, whole grains, fruits and veggies and lean meat. I don’t like sweets but do crave bread and potatoes. I ate well, but too much of a good thing is still too much. I really needed to focus on portion control. I am now just 2 lbs shy of my goal weight. When I reach my goal in the next week or two, I will have lost 25 lbs from my heaviest last year.
I hope that by developing good habits one at a time that they will become life long habits and I can maintain my weight. And if life ever takes another bump in the road and causes me to go off track I know that all is not lost and with sometime, effort and support of friends I can return to my healthy fit life style.
UPDATE: Feb 11, 2009
I finally reached my goal weight this morning. Took a little longer then a week or two (sickness and a family loss had me side tracked) but I made it. Now I have to maintain.

Beth, thanks for sharing. I think that in order to continue to make healthy lifestyles viral, this ought to be a meme. I think we ought to share our stories of health (or lack thereof) and share our successes and struggles. Things that get talked about are dealt with and lordie knows the world need to think about health issues!

Your story is inspiring. thanks for the tips on how you got started. I’ve been having difficulty maintaining a healthy diet and daily exercise since January 2008 when I learned about PLNs and web2.0 tools.
Now after I come home from work I don’t exercise then do school work as I used to. Now I do my school work first then I’m into my PLN and my Reader, learning and sharing which means I’m on the computer most of the evening. I know I need to balance my time but I’m not sure how to fit everything in.
If any readers share how you manage your time with work, family, chores and fitness I would really appreciate it.
