Where are the media rich textbooks?
Push Pop press, which was developing software to easily create and publish interactive media rich books, has abandoned its development and sold the program/process to facebook so facebook can become a bigger book.
Kind of sad really. Trying to find quality, interactive media rich books already created is pretty slim. The possibilities offered here by PushPop were wonderful. I have been looking for such books for the ipads our students use. Most textbooks I find are still primarily text based. All most publishers have done is take a text book and convert it to digital format. ePub does provide the possibility of adding video, images and links but outside of the Apple sphere, and self-create eBooks there is little out there. Inkling is beginning to create interactive texts but it’s current limited offering of books is for higher ed.
Where do you find interactive, media rich eBooks for HS?
Update: Tim Holt posted this link via plurk on the rise of the digital textbook. which lead to this graphic. I like that text is going mobile but am still hoping to find more then just text on a screen.

I home school one of my kids and have been using Kinetic Books for her algebra. I’m not really sure this qualifies as a book, it’s more like software.
Media rich textbooks sounds like a wonderful idea to get and keep people’s attention.
I really enjoyed reading your blog post. However, I did not know that text books were going green and I find it very sad that facebook is taking the good software.
